The 2017 drum corps season is kicking into high gear as DCI begins its stretch of major regional events. This also means that drum corps is coming back to the Midwest soon! In two weeks, I’ll be providing LIVE From the Stands! coverage of the 2017 Emerald City Music Games competition in Dublin, Ohio, on Monday, July 31st. If you’ll be at the show, be sure to say hello!
It’s the first show of the season and we’re all invited.
The 2016 Drum Corps International season starts off where it will also end, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Fortunately, for those of us who need our early season drum corps fix but don’t live way back home in Indiana, DCI and Fathom Events are bringing the show to the big screen.
Continuing the tradition of showcasing drum corps in movie theaters, the 2016 DCI Tour Premiere will be broadcast live to theaters across the country on Thursday, June 23rd. Six of the top drum corps in the world will lead off the 2016 competitive season. The show begins at 8:30 PM Eastern.
I will once again be reviewing the cinecast for Drum Corps World, making observations on the event and broadcast, including the behind the scenes content and vignettes shown between performances. Unlike previous years, I will also review the performances of the night as well.
If you’ll be attending the cinecast at the Regal Montrose Movies 12 cinema in Montrose (Akron), Ohio, be sure to find me and say hello. I will be wearing my Drum Corps Planet staff shirt so I’ll be easy to find.
Here we go!
The latest newslsetter from Drum Corps World is out and available for your reading pleasure. This newsletter is practically a full edition of the magazine in its own right, numbering almost 60 pages containing coverage of the DCI Champonships week events and the competitions leading up to it, as well as the DCA event which also recently took place.
Two of those DCI events, the Dublin, Ohio, Emerald City Music Games and the DCI Prelims cinecast, were reviewed by me and are in this newsletter. There was a third event, the Massillon, Ohio, Pro Football Hall of Fame competition, which I was not able to write in time for this release. I will post it either here or on Drum Corps Planet in the near future.
You can read the newsletter here.
As a bonus, enjoy the pictures I took from the Dublin show.

Now that I’ve celebrated my birthday, it’s time to turn my attention back to my favorite summer activity: drum corps. We are now 8 days away from the 2011 DCI World Championships Finals. The junior corps are approaching the top of their performance game and the shows are now all big as the end is in site. This excites me not just as a fan of the activity, but also as someone who covers the activity for Drum Corps Planet and Drum Corps World. I’ll be doing a lot of covering during the next week, so here’s where you’ll find me.
I will be in Dublin, Ohio, next week, covering my first live show for Drum Corps Planet and Drum Corps World as the 2011 Emerald City Music Games will at the Dublin-Jerome High School stadium. The show starts at 7PM and features the following corps, listed in reverse order of performance:
- The Cavaliers – Rosemont, IL
