2017 Legends Drum Corps Open – Social Media Coverage

It’s just one week away from the 2017 Legends Drum Corps Open, part of the DCI Open Class tour. As you may know, I will be covering the show for Drum Corps Planet as part of our LIVE! From the Stands series, as well as writing the show review for Drum Corps World. Being the 21st century, there is also a social media component to my coverage and the experience.

First, if you’ll be at the show, be sure to check in on the Legends Drum Corps Open Facebook event page and/or Google+ event page.

Second, I’ll be posting my thoughts and photos of each of the performing corps on my social media accounts. Make sure you follow me on TwitterFacebookGoogle+, and Instagram.

Finally, be sure to follow each of the corps on their social media accounts as they post photos and updates before, during, and after the show. You can find a list of drum corps social media accounts here.

Competing corps:

  • Colt Cadets
  • Legends
  • Les Stentors
  • Music City
  • River City Rhythm
  • Shadow

Whether you’re coming to the show or will be following along online, I hope to see you next Saturday!

Highland Middle And High School Orchestra Concert Wednesday Night

The 5th graders had the spotlight on Tuesday. Now, the rest of the Highland Orchestra gets their chance to shine. The 6th, 7th, 8th, and high school orchestras perform Wednesday evening starting at 7PM in the Highland High School auditorium. This also serves as the dress rehearsal for the high school orchestra as they have their first OMEA contest appearance Friday night. The concert is free to the public and is a great chance for people to see and support these young musicians. Hope to see you there!

Christmas Haul – 2012 Edition

Another Christmas has gone by. Although my wife and I had to leave Indianapolis Christmas night to get home ahead of the oncoming blizzard, we both enjoyed the time we did have with our family. My sister-in-law Molly made great food to enjoy as we watched our niece Tess discover the wonder of opening presents Christmas morning, then playing with said presents throughout the day. Now, as SNERMERGERD 2012 drops a metric ton of white stuff on my home and most of the Midwest, I have plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the great gifts my family gave me this year.

August 17, 2012 Drum Corps World Newsletter Released

The latest newslsetter from Drum Corps World is out and available for your reading pleasure. This newsletter is practically a full edition of the magazine in its own right, numbering almost 60 pages containing coverage of the DCI Champonships week events and the competitions leading up to it, as well as the DCA event which also recently took place.

Two of those DCI events, the Dublin, Ohio, Emerald City Music Games and the DCI Prelims cinecast, were reviewed by me and are in this newsletter. There was a third event, the Massillon, Ohio, Pro Football Hall of Fame competition, which I was not able to write in time for this release. I will post it either here or on Drum Corps Planet in the near future.

You can read the newsletter here.

As a bonus, enjoy the pictures I took from the Dublin show.

2012 DCI Muncie Fan Network Webcast Review

DCI Fan Network subscribers got a treat as the DCI Muncie show was added to the live broadcast schedule as a special bonus. Both fans in the stands and Fan Network viewers were fortunate that the show even happened as the weather tried to double whammy the show into submission, first by delaying the show start an hour due to extreme heat, then by sending a severe storm system right through the heart of Indiana, causing damage throughout the Muncie area and even sending a Cavalier staff member to the hospital due to injuries sustained when a gust of wind hit the staff scaffolding as they were dismounting it. The show did go on, though, complete with the sun shining in full force as it set behind the stands of the stadium at the start of the show. The Muncie show was the last event of the 2012 Music For All Summer Symposium, so the crowd was definitely ready to cheer for every corps performing tonight.
